War: To Fight or not to Fight?

Do we want a war?  This is truly the question of the day, isn't it?  No sane person wants to send a nation to war merely for the sake of war.  But in this volatile climate called the 21st century, we find ourselves faced with a dilemma.  Although it seems inevitable, there are many, both of the liberal and conservative bent that are concerned that we may be acting irrationally, or even impulsively to march to war.  Rightly so. War is a very ugly, tragic thing.  It is a thing to be shunned, avoided, condemned.  Since time out of mind, civilized peoples have sought ways to avoid wars.  Diplomacy, treaties, and pacts have punctuated history at least as much as wars have.  This is as it should be.

But owing to the baser nature of humans in general, along with certain nationalities, and ideologies specifically,  the routes of the peace makers have at times been rendered ineffective.  In America, and the world at large, we are facing just such a situation.  Lest we lose sight of the greater picture,  let us not forget that Americans are dead, on American soil, at the hands of a foreign entity, who hates us.  Those of this ideology have sworn enmity with us and have determined to kill just as many of us as possible.  They have sworn to kill our friends and allies as well.  This is beyond refute.  The fact of the matter is, we are already at war.  We have not declared it.  We have declined thus far to participate.  But make no mistake, war has been declared on us.  Acts of war have been committed against us.  Acts of war have been carried out against our friends.

The shame of it is, is not the fact that we have allowed this to happen to us.  We Americans are normally a peace loving people, and this is a good thing.  But the real shame is how our leadership in Washington is treating this.  Rather than rallying round the flagpole, as would be fitting,  liberal politicians (of both major parties) seem to be scurrying about like cockroaches, trying to use the situation to pad their own nests.  Realizing that this is an election year and there is a lot at stake for all concerned, what happened to the solidarity displayed September 12, 2001?  Was it all a lie? Many things were declared in the weeks following 9/11.  The President vowed to fight terrorism, and congress vowed to support him.  Fast forward thirteen months later:  The President is busy pursuing what he said he would do, but congress,  the liberal democrats specifically, are self-destructing.

At the time of this writing, only in the past few days has a resolution suitable to the task been passed into law.  This is good I suppose, but at what cost because of the delay?  What kind of solidarity have we shown to our enemies?  And yet the debate rages on.  How cowardly and wishy-washy must we appear to the world.  This is a conflict that would have and could have been decided by now had we acted swiftly.  Yet with every dissenting breath from the left, precious time is wasted.  More innocent people die at the hands of terrorists, while perhaps one of history's potentially greatest terrorists quietly builds weapons of mass destruction.  Once he has used them, (and it's a certainty he will, he already has)  free people the world will be outraged, but again, belatedly.  More innocents will be slain.

There have been characterizations assigned to  people of the varying viewpoints, which I feel are a bit unfair as well as inaccurate.  For some unexplained reason, they are likened to various fowl.  I would like to amend these characterizations.  The conservatives have been called hawks, possibly to denote an aggressive, predatory stance.  While this may be a little extreme, why not go all the way, and just call them eagles, or even American Eagles.  The liberals have been compared to doves.  Now, a dove has been the universal symbol of peace, but peace has never been enjoyed without a price.  I feel that they would be better characterized as chickens, or perhaps ostriches.  They (the liberal leadership),  display their fear, and cowardice, as well as a fair amount of determined ignorance.

As a military veteran, I find it particularly offensive how the so-called "doves" have used America's finest as a trump card during their debates.  They continually spin their points as if conservatives view the service men and women as so much cannon fodder.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  But that being aside, has anybody considered this from the angle of the soldiers themselves?  Most I believe would be candid enough to say that they are not eager to go to war.  But they would also be quick to point out that they would do their duty.  You see, there is a lot more to it than people being paid to do a job, these are men at arms, warriors.  They consider it their sacred duty to go into harm's way.  This is a point of honor.  It is wrong to dishonor them with this type of rhetoric.  They have a much clearer picture of the threat posed by Saddam and his ilk, than is presented in the liberally controlled media.

Having said all this, I urge all TRUE Americans to do what all TRUE Americans have always done;  Roll up your sleeves and let's get to work.  Let's support our president, and do what needs to be done, and get it over with.  If we don't it will ultimately cost us in spades.  Let's not fall into the intricate web of lies and self-interest being spun by the traitors in the senate leadership.  I believe them to be evil men, and like the president said, they are more concerned with their own agenda than national security.  Let's all use our OWN brains for a change....
