The Building of The Citadel
Where We've Been
ello and welcome to our site. This is very much a work in progress. I have been developing it for several years, as I learn HTML, php, Java, Flash, and a host of other things. I have built a handful of other personal sites using WSYWIG editors, while learning HTML. So far, this site is completely hand coded. I have used CoffeeCup HTML editor, Ace HTML Pro, Notepad, and HTMLkit in it's construction. All are very nice editors in their own right.
Where We Are
t this time it is a very static website with not much interactivity, but that will be changing. My latest step in the evolution of The Citadel has been to move the entire website to a paid host with a new domain. In the process, I have converted the website in it's entirety to php coding. This will enable us to maintain and upgrade the site with much greater speed and efficiency. I have also added a blog (The main Digital Forge website), and a message board. Also, We have a Yahoo! Groups powered mailing list called The Tower Of The Paladins. We continue to use all these tools to endeavor to bring together our friends and family, and strengthen those relationships on the web.
Where We Are Headed
ith the implementation of php and MySQL, my intention is to move The Citadel on into the realm of dynamic websites. I learn, and I test everything out here first. At some point in the future, we will have here a content managed site, in much the same fashion that blog sites use, except it will be completely customized to our needs. As I am able to perfect my understanding and skills, I will put it to good use elsewhere. My goal is to create a web architecture utilizing php and MySQL to enable me to set up fully customizable dynamic websites in a short amount of time, complete with a wide choice of custom templates. This is, I realize a very lofty dream for a self taught web designer. But it is what I love and I will keep going till I "git-r-done". If you have a similar interest and wish to form a small development team, and don't mind humble beginnings, then get in touch with me. The best ways to do it would be by email, join the Yahoo! Group [Tower Of The Paladins], or post on our Message Forum. I would be glad to talk with you.
To Sum It Up
eb design is still a learning process for me, and I suppose it always will be. I enjoy it. I have precious little time or resource available to indulge myself in my multitude of interests. But computers and the internet are but a few of those passions that cost relatively little in terms of dollars (time is another issue, ask my wife, hehehe) This site will, over time collect various aspects of our personalities and interests. I have always had a fascination for things medieval, so I opted to make this the theme of our site, and will attempt to integrate everything into it.
About The Citadel
ost of this site will be accessed thru the site map. There are two ways in which this will be achieved. Primarily, the Flash powered graphical map will be used. Alternatively, there is a Map Index for those individuals who prefer to cut straight to the chase. As far as personal sites go, this is primarly a repository of links, and other material that pertain to our vast collection of interests. By nature, such a mass of material is difficult to categorize. That's why there are so many areas to explore. The general plan is to make each area found in the map into a mini-site of sorts, branching out into subcategories from there. From time to time we will add new sections as the need arises. I wil take great care to provide links intuitively whenever there is a keyword in the content that might point to something interesting elsewhere. After all, that's what the web is all about, right?
n a note of propriety, some of the graphics in this site have been gathered into a collection on my computer years ago, in somewhat a haphazard fashion. At the time I was not terribly organized and was pretty much ignorant of the ways of the web, so much of the art is uncredited. My sincere apologies go out to the artists. I have worked at purging those pieces from this site, and/or providing credit and links back to the ones I have been able to determine the origins of. If you happen to see one of your graphics on my site, and it is uncredited, please accept my apology. If you will email me, I will be happy to remove it, or provide a link-back to your site. I am an artist of sorts myself, and intend to, over time, replace much of what's here with original art of my own.
